Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS), the largest demand response company in New York’s markets, expects to pay out more than $18 Million during the upcoming summer period to its customers participating in its Operation Save New York Demand Response Program.
Throughout New York, and across the United States, several thousand large electricity users receive payments for participating in demand response programs. Operation Save New York is the single largest such program and is focused on New York State businesses.
ECS’ aggregate customer pool across all of its markets represents an amount of electricity brought off line equivalent to powering over 800,000 homes. Foster’s Wine Estates Enrolls in Cut Back California
Facilities generate revenue through targeted energy conservation

Foster’s Wine Estates, owners of seven premium California wineries including Beringer Vineyards in St. Helena, and Chateau St. Jean and Asti in Sonoma County, has enrolled in the award-winning demand response program, Cut Back California. The program, administered by Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS), allows facilities to receive payments for their agreement to conserve energy in certain areas of their operations when there is an electricity shortage in the state.
With their enrollment, Foster’s has the option of reducing the use of lights, air compressors, chiller systems, or curtailing other non-essential operations in order to conserve electricity if and when problems arise in the grid. First Tanning Salon Enrolls in Demand Response Program

Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS), the largest privately held demand response provider in the country, has enrolled the first tanning chain in their program. Perfect Color Tanning Salon, which has six locations in Long Island, has agreed to participate in ECS’ Operation Save New York in order to earn extra revenue for reducing their energy usage just a few times a year.
When the electric grid is forecast to be unstable, Perfect Color will reduce their electricity usage in order to help prevent blackouts or brownouts.

Demand response firm explains why PJM is attractive

Energy Curtailment Specialists (ECS) is bringing its economic demand response program to PJM because it sees a need for the resource there, the firm said yesterday.
ECS offers a best-efforts program without penalties that pays participants for cutting power when the grid is unstable. The firm gives advance notice to customers when an event is expected.
The firm wants to expand and it believes it can bring a good product to the service territory, Vice President of Product Development Paul Tyno told us yesterday. PJM and other areas of the country seem primed for an expansion of DR, he added.

Allegany County Considering Energy Curtailment

Allegany County may participate in a voluntary, five-year plan to cut back energy use at in the
event of a crisis.
The proposal, which still needs legislative approval, was explained to the Public Works Committee this week by

“We ask all our customers to cut back on usage during times of crisis,” George said. “What makes a crisis is
when the New York State ISO (Independent System Operator) sees that the grid is starting to overload. We

ECS’ Stephen Lynch Named as Chairman of NYISO Price Responsive Load Working Group Committee

Stephen Lynch, Principal and Co-founder of Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc., a demand response provider headquartered in Buffalo, New York, and President of ACE Energy Company, Inc., a full service energy efficiency and savings company, has been named as chairman of the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) Price Responsive Load Working Group (PRL WG) Committee.

Marriott Hotels Join Demand Response Program

Twenty Marriott Hotels in New York State have enrolled in Operation Save New York, a demand response program administered by Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc., headquartered in Buffalo, New York. Participants in this program receive payments in return for agreeing to reduce their load when the electric grid is overloaded and in trouble. This program helps prevent blackouts and rolling brownouts along with eliminating the need to build new power plants.

On Sunday, July 15, Energy Curtailment Specialists, Inc. (ECS) participated as one of the featured panel speakers at the Demand Response Collaborative Meeting between Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC), which was part of NARUC’s 2007 Summer Committee Meetings, being held July 15 to 18 in New York City.
The Collaborative addressed the coordination of federal and state demand response policies, such as the regulatory barriers to increased customer participation in demand response programs identified in a report, “Assessment of Demand Response and Advanced Metering”, which FERC issued to Congress, last August, in response to a mandate in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. ECS will provide a minimum of 40 megawatts of electricity to the utility over the next five years,
ECS said Wednesday.

The PG&E contract will begin this summer and run through 2011. It will involve ECS enrolling

During the recent energy crunch, involving several days of record-breaking electric demands,
manufacturers in the LIC area helped ease strain, lower demand on the electric grid, and avoid
