I HAVE A GENERATOR

If you have an on-site generator at your facility, participation in Operation Save New York is very easy.  When you are provided with the day-ahead notice to curtail power, you will simply make sure that the generator is fully fueled and get it ready for operation for the following day.  Many of our participants have generators that cover their entire facility while many more have generators that cover only a portion of their equipment or processes—it doesn’t matter.  As a further testament to the fact that a customer with ECS pays nothing to participate, ECS will in fact reimburse all fuel expenses associated with running the generator during a called Operation Save New York event.

The benefits to participating in Operation Save New York with a generator are as follows:

  1. You are paid a significant amount of money simply to stand by and be ready to curtail when called, upon a day-ahead notice (capacity payments);

  2. You are paid for the actual energy you offset by running your generator when called (energy payments);

  3. While running your generator, you avoid the highest priced electric hours of the year (energy savings);

  4. ECS reimburses you for all fuel expenses associated with running the generator during a called event;

  5. In certain instances, ECS will pay for or apply payment towards a Preventative Maintenance (PM) Agreement to make sure that your generator is fully functional. Some facilities enjoy an entirely free PM Agreement;

  6. Importantly, the times that you will be asked to run your generator are precisely the highest demand times of the year.  As such, the grid is tenuous and voltage fluctuations are commonplace.  According to the National Electricians Code (NEC), a voltage fluctuation in excess of 5% creates a high potential of equipment damage.  During these tenuous times, your generator provides a more stable source of power than the electric grid and helps you to prevent equipment damage.  Sensitive equipment subject to damage during voltage fluctuations are air-conditioning, computer systems, certain lighting systems, production equipment, among many other things.
