Energy Curtailment Specialists supports prevention of climate change
Lake Tahoe, Nev. / July 30, 2007
Featured as speaker at California Manufacturers and Technology Association conference
Energy Curtailment Specialists (ECS) was featured as a speaker in California Manufacturers and Technology Association’s conference concerning efforts to reduce and prevent climate change in California. The 2-day conference, “California Manufacturers Leading the Way on Climate Change: Innovation, Markets & Prosperity”, took place in Lake Tahoe, on July 26 and 27 and focused on the need to lower greenhouse gas emissions while maintaining manufacturing competitiveness in order to ensure California’s prosperity.
"I personally believe that climate change and energy pricing volatility represent some of the most significant problems of mankind," said Winston Hickox, chairman of the Market Advisory Committee to the California Air Resources Board.
The conference brought together industry leaders, regulators, administration officials and legislators to discuss implementing California’s energy and climate change policies, solutions for industry, and the pivotal role of technology and innovation. California Public Utilities Commission’s President Michael Peevey delivered the keynote address.
ECS’ executive vice president and director of program development, Paul Tyno, discussed the environmental and economic merits of demand response – conserving electricity during periods when supply may be inadequate to meet demand. “By its very nature, demand response meets the goals of continued economic growth and environmental protection. It is a clean source of energy supply and it brings revenue to participants with no outlay on their part,” said Tyno.
Cut Back California, administered by ECS, pays companies for their agreement to conserve energy in certain areas of their operations when there is an electric shortage in California. This initiative increases grid reliability and helps decrease the occurrence of blackouts by shifting electric use from peak periods to off-peak hours.
